YOUNGSTERS at Horsley Primary School held their traditional May Day celebrations on Friday as they processed through the village accompanied by music and singing to welcome the start of spring.
The festivities started with 'Jack in the Green,' a ritual in which a boy, dressed in beech leaves opens the door of the school and lets in the light.
The oldest boy in the school, Nick Farrell took the role this year.
The spectacular occasion then culminates in country dancing at Horsley Mill and a celebration breakfast before the children dance the rest of the morning away.
Headteacher Martin Fry said of the event: "It was great - a fantastic, sunny day. It was exciting for all the children.
"We went down to the valley and it was just beautiful.
"It is a celebration of the first day of summer and it is all about traditions as well as dance."
