Lewis targets England debut against Bangladesh

GLOUCESTERSHIRE fast bowler Jon Lewis could make his England debut for the series opener against Bangladesh at Lord's on Thursday week.

Lewis,29, received the news in a phone call from chairman of selectors David Graveney on Saturday night.

After a good start to the season (he has taken 18 wickets at 22.55) and was preferred to the centrally-contracted James Anderson.

Lewis was close to England selection for the Centurion Test against South Africa in January.

Whether Lewis plays seems to depend on if Simon Jones can recover from a back injury.

PHIL WESTON picked up the Thule Player of the Month award for Gloucestershire in April.

Averaging 80 runs a match, Weston has picked up where he left off last season.

His unbeaten century in last year's C&G Trophy final won him the Thule Champagne Moment award for 2004.

Meanwhile, Gloucestershire have confirmed the signing of Sri Lankan Malinga Bandara, who will join the club as Upul Chandana's replacement for the summer.
