Horsley ready to name boss

TREVOR HORSLEY and Forest Green's top brass will meet later today to unveil the new manager expected to revive the relegated club's fortunes.

As revealed in the SNJ last week, Shaun Taylor, a former Swindon Town and current coach at Bristol City has emerged as a firm favourite to succeed Alan Lewer.

But he could face competition from Jimmy Quinn, who is also hoping to land the manager's job at League Two side Peterborough.

Former Norwich defender Ian Culverhouse and ex- Farnborough boss Dean Austin are also in the frame.

The SNJ understands that former Forest Green captain Mark Cooper was also a target, but the popular midfielder opted to remain in the Conference with Tamworth.

Meanwhile, Alan McLoughlin has quit Forest Green after failing to make the shortlist for the vacant manager's job.

The former Republic of Ireland World Cup player phoned the club to enquire about his application but was informed that hadn't made the shortlist.

McLoughlin will also leave his post in charge of the club's college partnership programme in Swindon.

Gloucester City winger Lee Smith has decided against a move to Forest Green and has signed for Cirencester Town.

Robert Gill has joined Hucknall Town and is set to play against Forest Green next season.

Lewis Haldane has returned to Bristol Rovers following his loan at The Lawn. Meanwhile, Andy Harris, who finished the season at Rovers, is now a free agent, having been released by Chester City.

Hugh McAuley has returned to Northwich Victoria following his release from Forest Green.
