Sci-fi fan's time-travelling shed

DOCTOR Who fan Jamie Earley has a truly dalek-table garden accessory after installing a tailor-made Tardis as his shed.

The sci-fi fan, 35, had a £2,000 copy of the famous blue post-box made for himself and friend Russell Bristow to take pride of place at their Salmon Springs home.

And to complement the tool-storing time machine, the duo also own two full-sized replica daleks and an original version of the doctor's robot dog sidekick K-9.

"It is certainly a talking point," Jamie told the SNJ. "The daleks are my favourite but I like the Tardis because of the effect it has on the neighbours - they love it.

"It is just a different kind of shed."

Russell, 35, added: "It was a big decision to buy the Tardis but I think it was worth it.

"People look inside and expect to see a big control room but they get a big disappointment. I'm afraid it is exactly as big on the inside as it is on the outside."

One of the £1,800 daleks has been fitted out with remote-controlled lights and sound effects and the pair have toyed with the idea of using it as a novel anti-burglary device.

"It would be a good watchdog," said Russell. "If you turn the lights off in the room people do not realise its there but you press the button and it just goes off.

"That could give someone a nasty shock."

A die-hard Doctor Who fan, Jamie says he is impressed with the new series and is equally glad the daleks were able to trundle back onto our screens.

"The daleks were so frightening because they do not look human in any way," he said. "It is not like a guy in a rubber suit - they just look alien."

Among the other items in their collection is a 1953 Riley RME car once owned by Alec 'Obi-wan Kenobi' Guinness.
