This week we introduce Andrew Hill of Stroud's Sunshine Health Shop who will be giving regular advice on healthy eating and guiding us through the shelves of natural supplements on offer on today's high street. He will also be answering questions from you, the readers and advising on how to stay in tune with your body's needs.
SINCE coming to Stroud in 1987 to take over the running of Sunshine Health Shop in Church Street the interest in alternative health and healthy eating in the area has amazed me.
Stroud must be one of the most well informed towns in the country with such a proliferation of alternative health clinics and consumers so aware of the importance of a healthy diet.
Recently the Gillian McKeith TV series You Are What You Eat has made even more people aware of food and its beneficial effect on health.
Sales of aduki beans, tahini, miso soup, flax seeds, nuts, grains and a host of obscure foods have been selling like hot cakes as people reap the benefits of a new healthy dietary regime.
Omega 3 fatty acids may be the missing link in today's modern environment.
Many parents have seen enormous improvements in their children's behaviour and learning ability by choosing a healthy diet and simply incorporating special Omega 3 rich fish oil supplements like eye q or Efalex.
Older children and younger adults are also benefiting from using these supplements whilst studying for exams as short term memory and concentration are improved.
The EPA rich Omega 3 and 6 fatty acid profile which makes these supplements effective is derived from fish such as sardines and pilchards and not cod liver or halibut.
When blended with Evening Primrose Oil this simple but effective supplementation appears to strengthen the integrity of the myelin nerve sheaths which protect the multitude of brain nerves.
This is somewhat similar to electrical wiring and these sheaths are vital just as the coating is on an electrical cable (further information is available at www.durhamtrial.org).
Eye Q or Efalex are available in easy to take, pleasant tasting liquid or capsules with dosage varying according to age. They may be safely used from two years old.
Many of today's health problems can often be corrected by simple changes in diet with the use of natural remedies to aid the body to help itself.
We all expect 'a pill for every ill' in today's hectic lifestyle and often by suppressing symptoms we are not in tune with our body's needs.
A natural approach can often lead to a long lasting rejuvenated body and mind.
