Mystery thank you

A MYSTERY donor left a £250 cash gift for a Stroud internet centre after it gave him the computer skills to land a new job.

Staff at Stroud.com Internet Centre said they were "surprised and flattered" when they opened their post on Friday to find £250 with a small anonymous note.

Project tutor Debbie Hewitt said: "The note said he had found it difficult to get work because he didn't know how to use a computer.

"But after completing some training with us, he got a new job. The money was from his first pay packet as a thank you for the help he received.

"There was no name given but the note said he wanted the cash to be used to help other people benefit from training.

"We thought it was such an amazingly generous gesture and would like to say a huge 'thank you' back to whoever it was."

The centre, based at the top of Stroud High Street, was set up by the Painswick Inn Project and has been running for four years.

Aiming to give affordable and flexible internet access and IT training, it has had more than 20,000 user visits since opening and currently has almost 2,400 members.

Staff have immediately put the windfall to good use by subsidising the cost of their new training programme. For more details drop into the centre or call 01453 666422.

The centre is open from 10am until 4pm Monday to Thursday or 10am to 2pm on Fridays.
