Be enchanted by angels

GETTING in touch with your guardian angel is not as tricky as it sounds, according to a hippy icon turned Celtic storyteller set to visit Nympsfield.

Robin Williamson of hippy pioneers the Incredible String Band is due to bring his own blend of Celtic tales and enchanting tunes to the Village Hall on Saturday, June 25.

Well-versed in the ancient history and lore of angels, he will guide an afternoon workshop on how to call on our own angel in times of trouble.

"It is a bit like astrology really," he said. "The folklore on the subject says that everyone has a guardian angel based on their date of birth - whether that has any meaning to people is really up to them.

"It is all part of the way the original Celtic church viewed the world, as a place filled with wonder and truth. It all seems to make sense to me."

The workshop will be followed by an evening concert of 'Songs and Stories for Midsummer', which also features Robin's wife Bina.

Drawing on Celtic and Eastern influences, the performance has been described by critics as "a magical and enchanting evening" and "inspiring".

The duo will be coming to Nympsfield direct from performing at the prestigious Meltdown festival at the South Bank Centre in London.

Places are limited for the afternoon workshop, which takes place between 2pm and 4pm. Cost is £30 to include refreshments and the session is suitable for all.

Concert tickets cost £10 for adults, £8 concessions and £5 children.

Organisers stress that the two events are separate and anyone wishing to attend one does not necessarily have to attend the other.
