Owers names Taylor as number two

FOREST GREEN boss Gary Owers has secured the services of former Bristol City team-mate Shaun Taylor by naming the ex- Swindon Town defender his assistant manager.

As reported in the SNJ last week, Taylor, who missed out on the top job at The Lawn, was the clear favourite for the number two role after leaving his coach position at Ashton Gate.

Taylor captained Swindon Town in the Premiership before finishing his career at Bristol City, with Owers.

"I'm delighted to get someone of his standing," said Owers.

"We have always kept in touch and he will be a big influence for Forest Green."

Meanwhile, Owers has tied up the full-time futures of Matt Gadsby and Adam Garner.

Gadsby's signature was sealed for another two years. The former Walsall and Kidderminster man, who can play in defence or midfield, agreed new terms with Owers on Friday.

Former boss Alan Lewer signed Garner from Oxford United. However, after a bright start the defender was omitted from the side after a torrid performance against a Bob Taylor inspired Tamworth. Garner has been handed a one-year deal.
