Fete pulls in 700 revellers

PARENTS and villagers came out in force to support the second Haresfield Primary School fete on Sunday.

Darth Vader, accompanied by two Jedi knights, officially opened the event, which featured a talent contest, fancy dress, tug-of-war and magician, Magic Wiz.

Carol Dunlop, who organised the event and is a parent at the school, said it was a huge success with about 700 people turning up.

She said: "It was a really fantastic day for the village and for the school."

Around £3,200 was raised for the school's new children's playground.

Another parent, Claire Card, said all the children thought it was great fun.

She added: "When Darth Vader turned up there was just silence and the children were entranced by him - they couldn't believe he was there."
