Frocester 146-7
THE loss off three wickets in only ten overs proved to be the defining factor in Frocester's cup defeat at Bath, which extinguished any hopes of the Pounds Close side making it to Lord's.
Earlier, Frocester were inserted on a good-looking wicket. However, the Bath pace attack of Thorburn and Staite found considerable bounce and movement, with Iain Collins and Ali Bressington both falling to Staite.
Adam Robson was next to depart as Frocester crumbled to ten for three from ten overs. Nonetheless, Steve Pope joined Nick Trainor and they began to master the bowling.
Pope played several inventive reverse sweeps and chip shots to find gaps in the field. Pope reached 45 when he was caught at mid-on with the partnership worth 94. Trainor fell shortly after for 45, and Frocester were struggling again, but with Ed Bressington and Jamie Rendall playing some fine shots the Frocester total was lifted to 146-7 from 45 overs.
Frocester needed early wickets from Ben Gannon and Bressington, but only one wicket fell in the opening burst, Trainor holding a slip catch off Bressington.
Gannon captured a wicket late in his opening spell, but it was the introduction of Pete Church that gave Frocester their only sniff of victory.
He bowled a superb spell of spin, dismissing Bath skipper, Ben Staunton, and then running out McGlashan from the very next delivery. At this stage, Bath were 86-4 However, Coombes held firm.
