Shortwood ready to welcome Forest Green

HELLENIC Premier Division Shortwood United have secured ten new players ahead of next Tuesday's prestigious home friendly with Conference side Forest Green Rovers, kick-off 7.30pm.

The joint management team of Mark Sumpter and Ian Freebrey have raided Hellenic rivals Slimbridge to bring Craig Cole, Rich Evans, Matt Green, Rich Moore, James Darby and Jon Embling back to Meadowbank.

The signing spree has also seen goalkeeper James Price return to United from Fairford Town. Gareth Davis comes back for a second spell after time at Gloucester United and Ledbury.

Neil Long, who missed much of last season after breaking his leg for Yate Town, makes a welcome return to Meadowbank.

Jamie Bish has been recruited from County League side Taverners after recovering from a broken leg.

Ian Freebrey was delighted with the pre-season captures and said the club was eagerly anticipating the Forest Green clash: "We're chuffed to get all the boys back and their presence will strengthen us.

"I hope Gary Owers and Forest Green enjoy their evening with us. We're delighted they're coming to play us."

Meanwhile, Gary Owers takes Forest Green to Weymouth this Saturday. Mark Danks and Darren Davies have agreed a new deals at the Lawn.

However, defender Tom Gould has left by mutual consent.
