PANICKY pooch Bonnie is so terrified by thunderstorms and fireworks she eats her way through the doors of her desperate owner's Stroud home.
Despairing Fay Woodward, 59, says the eight-year-old Border Collie has caused chaos at their Dudbridge home, eating through a door, a garden gate - and even her grandson's bedroom.
"She has always been a nervous dog but never this bad," said Mrs Woodward.
"Normally she is a brilliant dog but when there is a storm or fireworks she starts demolishing the house.
"She eats everything. Last year she ate through our garden gate when we were on holiday and she was staying with neighbours.
"It started thundering and our neighbours rushed across - but it was too late. The gate was demolished.
"During a storm three weeks ago she ate through my grandson Matthew's door. The hole was about a foot wide.
"She was bleeding at the mouth but she didn't seem to care."
Matthew also suffered from Bonnie's panic last year when she ate her way through his bedroom, including sheets and pillows, during a storm.
"Now we know she can chew through doors we are terrified to leave her," said Mrs Woodward. "We do not know what to do with her next."
Mrs Woodward has tried in vain to curb Bonnie's ravenous panic attacks by shutting the curtains and leaving the radio on to block out storms and fireworks - all to no avail.
Vets have recommended a sonic plug to calm Bonnie's nerves but even if her destructive behaviour continues, her loyal owner has vowed never to give her away.
"A dog is for life - you do not just get rid of it," she said. "Who would have her anyway?"
