Pupils' tribute to tragic Scott

CHILDREN at Gastrells Community Primary School paid a touching tribute to their friend Scott Cook by installing a special friendship bench and mosaic.

Scott, 11, was tragically killed in a road accident on the A46 at Rooksmoor during the Easter holidays, leading to calls for more safety measures. Recently, the school unveiled the results of two special projects in his memory.

"During this term, we have held special assemblies for Scott and we have shared many happy memories," said Gastrells head Cottia Howard.

"We felt it was important to create something special for him as he was such a special part of our school community and was such a good friend."

Scott's classmates in Year 6 worked with local artist Lis (corr) Parker to plan the mosaic design on the theme of 'Friendship' before the whole school helped to make it with hundreds of tiny tile pieces.

The bench, intended as a place for pupils to sit with friends, forms a focal point in the school playground and was donated as a leaving gift by the Year 6 children.

Scott's parents Russell and Diane said in a statement: "It's a very special tribute to Scott.

"We feel very proud that Scott's happy and gentle personality touched so many."

The bench was unveiled on Wednesday, July 20.
