Gidman heroics net just reward

FORMER Wycliffe pupil Alex Gidman has been named the Thule Player of the month for July.

He had an excellent month with bat, highlights being his 93 and a career best 142 against Surrey in the County Championship.

The 235 stand between Gidman and Adshead was a fifth-wicket record for Gloucestershire against Surrey.

His innings of 142 lasted five and three-quarter hours at the crease in which the England A player faced 287 deliveries and hit 22 fours plus the two sixes.

Together with his 93 in the first innings, it was a monumental effort.

Peter Barker, Thule marketing manager who presented the award and said: "Alex has this month shown us all why he's so highly rated.

"More performances like this will no doubt enhance his reputation even further."
