Hoy suffers tragic loss of Woodsides Ashby

GATCOMBE'S Bettina Hoy suffered the tragic loss of her horse Woodsides Ashby on the cross-country course at Kreuth CCI*** in Germany .

Hoy was leading the field on Woodsides Ashby with a dressage score of 23.1pen. But as the pair approached the second water, Woodsides Ashby suddenly dropped dead from a suspected ruptured aorta.

Meanwhile, Hoy's, husband, Andrew, emerged as the eventual winner on Yeoman's Point.

With the competition overshadowed by the tragic events, British riders had a successful time with Mary King the highest placed British rider in second place behind Hoy who also finished ninth and 11th in the step lower CC1*.

European Champion Zara Phillips finished 12th on Ardfield Magic Star.
