Irish music with a twist

THEY'RE young, they're rocking, they're dynamic, they're Tada and they're coming to Prema in Uley this weekend.

In just four years, young Irish band Tada have exploded onto the international touring circuit, capturing the imaginations of many with a creative and spontaneous musical approach, seeking to capture the intricacies of a traditional art form within a contemporary band context.

Tada's lively blend of instrumentals and vocals in the traditional Irish idiom have helped the band evolve into one of the busiest touring act in the traditional music scene in recent times.

Oisn MacDiarmada (fiddle/vocals) is an honours graduate in Music Education at Trinity College.

Paul Finn from Co. Laois is a fast-rising young star of the button accordion playing in Ireland.

Particularly known for a pulsating and rhythmic performance style, his playing has featured prominently in major international touring dance productions, as well as in the indigenous session scene throughout Ireland.

Damien Stenson (flute/whistle) hails from the rich musical environment of Co. Sligo. Stenson is noted for his extensive repertoire and flowing style of playing. Sen McElwain (bouzouki/guitar), from Monaghan, brings a strong string dimension to the band through his energetic contributions on guitar and bouzouki.

The set is completed with Tristan Rosenstock (bodhran). Tristan's bodhrn playing evinces a distinctive musical sensitivity.

With lush Irish orchestration, Tada revel in the vibrant music of their homeland, deftly playing up its structural intricacies while preserving the timeless energy of the reels, jigs, hornpipes other lesser-known tunes in their repertoire.

They play at Prema on Saturday, November 12 at 8pm. Tickets, priced £8 or £6, are available from the box office.
