Rock night under threat

THE next Glos Rocks youth band night at The Space, Lansdown, Stroud, is this weekend and may be the last if there is a repeat of problems that marred the last event.

Co-organiser Rick Vick was disappointed that around 100 young people used the event as an excuse to hang out in Bank Gardens, marring the gig inside.

The regular concerts have seen a number of excellent young bands, including Elysium, SubJustice and youmademe, play better and better gigs to an enthusiastic crowd and move on to slots at other venues around Stroud and beyond.

"It would be a shame to lose Glos Rocks," said Rick. "But Kostka Garcia and I have put a lot of work in to help these young musicians make a success of the event and we wouldn't want to see nearly three years of work disappear.

"The bands last time were very disappointed as well. Glos Rocks is an event for the young people of Stroud, so we hope they'll come and enjoy the music."

Tickets are £4 and if people book in advance from Kane's Records, they'll also get a free Glos Rocks CD. The downstairs room will be opened as a soft drinks bar.

"New young bands are emerging all the time and The Space offers them a perfect venue in which to play - it really would be a shame if this were the last time we are able to let them," said Rick.

This month's bands are Happy Hour, Jelly Beans, Monkey Tricks and Roundabout and the concert is on Saturday from 7pm.
