FOXMOOR Primary School in Cashes Green has been ranked number eight in the south west's top ten primary schools.
Hard work by staff and pupils has been recognised by the Sunday Times Parent Power which provides publishes the guide to the country's best state and independent schools. The school's performance was compared to 500 primaries across England.
"Obviously it's great and means that the hard work of the staff and the children is paying off," said head Nanette Maycock.
"The school has a range of pupils from those who struggle to those who are very able meaning everybody has made a tremendous effort which is very gratifying."
Primary schools were assessed on their key stage two results over the past three years.
"The league tables tell how we are doing academically but they don't give you the whole story - the attitude of the children in the school is equally important," added Mrs Maycock.
"I am obviously delighted but there's much more to this school than being top of a league table. Education is much more holistic than what is achieved at the end of key stage four.
"Hopefully we are preparing them to be life-long learners, who are well adjusted and caring individuals who will be a credit to society and to the community."
Editor of the Parent Power guide, Ian Coxon said: "The guide was produced as it's a big consideration for some parents these days. Many parents are looking at getting children into a good primary school and then a good secondary school and for some it has quite a bearing on where they choose to live.
"Some people are prepared to commute quite long distances in order that their children to go to the best schools."
