Title fight could come to Stroud

LEIGH ALLISS is hoping he can bring an English title fight to Stroud after he ended his boxing year on a high at Bristol City's Dolman Exhibition Hall last Thursday.

The light heavyweight boxer is on course for a shot at the British title after comfortably beating Varuzhan Davtyan of Armenia for the second time. Despite a slip which the referee counted as a knock down against him, the 30-year-old took the four round contest on points.

Closer to title bout

Alliss has now been told by his manager and promoter Chris Sanigar that he is edging closer to a title fight, either at the English or British level.

Alliss said: "We almost got an English title in Stroud and there was talk of it happening at Stratford Park Leisure Centre.

"Hopefully I'll get a title fight next year. I really want it to take place in Stroud."
