A BEAUTIFUL golden cockerel has been hoisted to the top of Holy Trinity Church in Minchinhampton to mark the end of a £100,000 appeal to restore the spires.
The 2ft 4ins weathervane, created by Miserden craftsmen Michael Roberts, was a gift from local businessmen Peter Morris and Howard Tenens.
An appeal to restore the corona and pinnacles at the top of the church was launched in May, when more than 400 families donated money.
Now the work has been completed and the cockerel put in place it's hoped the scaffolding that has surrounded the church for six months will be removed in time for Christmas day.
Canon Michael Irving said the Cockerel was 'Beautiful.'
He added: "It really is stunning. It took 500 hours to make and Michael had to make the tools in order to create all the details."
