Lib Dems welcome 'Ming' dynasty

LIBERAL Democrats in Stroud have welcomed the dawn of a new era with the appointment of Sir Menzies Campbell as party leader.

Speaking after the veteran politician's victory on Thursday, Cllr Dennis Andrewartha (Cam West) - the leader of Lib Dems on Stroud District Council, said: "I think he is a hard worker, is well respected and he has an integrity that is missing from leaders in this country."

The 64-year-old, who won 57 percent of the vote, said he would take risks to 'modernise' the party and lead it 'back to government'.

Cllr Andrewartha added: "There is optimism in the party and I do believe we are moving towards rejecting the two-horse race.

"I think even people who aren't Lib Dems will trust him and providing the media doesn't make this a fashion or age contest we will do well with him."
