Ice work if you can get it for designer

A BRIMSCOMBE designer's ice age mammal illustrations have been chosen by the Royal Mail for this month's set of stamps.

Andrew Davidson, 47, was selected by the Royal Mail's stamp advisory committee for his graphic black and white designs.

The father-of-two has been working on and off for the Royal Mail for 24 years and this will be the sixth set of stamps he has designed.

Mr Davidson said: "When you are commissioned to do sets you are one of two or three people asked to explore avenues and illustrate a possible direction.

"The Royal Mail chooses the subject and we illustrate it."

Mr Davidson attended the Royal College of Art in London in the early 80s and has been illustrating ever since.

He said: "I may have been chosen for my lack of colour. "The black images on the white background reflect the spirit of the ice age.

"When you stand in the snow you look monochrome, everything takes on a strong contrast.

"Stamp design is one of the very best jobs a designer can be asked to do."

The self-employed graphic designer held a launch party at his cottage in Swells Hill yesterday, Tuesday, and all those involved in the project were invited.
