Glos Premier
Aretians 15 Painswick 0
PAINSWICK travelled to Bristol to play Aretians in this Glos Premier clash and came away empty-handed thanks to their poor start.
They handed Aretians two tries in the first eight minutes.
Firstly they tried to run the ball in their own 22, with a dropped pass handing the home side their first try. Then a missed kick to touch and poor tackling gave Aretians their second try of the afternoon.
With their tails up Aretians scored another try after good interplay between their forwards and backs to give them a 15-0 lead after only 15 minutes, at this stage it looked as though Painswick were in for a good hiding.
However, Painswick picked themselves up and started to compete and after being awarded a penalty near the posts they opted to kick for goal, but unfortunately the kick went wide.
Painswick kept up the pressure and were awarded several penalties near the Aretians' try-line, with a strong case for a penalty to be awarded, but the referee thought differently and eventually the home side cleared their lines.
In the second half Painswick won the majority of possession but strong defence from the home side kept them at bay, when Aretians attacked they also came up against a solid defence, with neither side looking likely to score.
But for their very poor start, Painswick might well have got something out of this game, and they will live to rue their mistakes.

Smiths 10 Cainscross 2nds 45
CAINSCROSS made the short trip to Smiths on Saturday with a depleated squad.
Cainscross found themselves 10 - 0 down in as many minutes with Mike Ashford the loaned player scoring for Smiths.
Gradually Cainy got into their stride with Colin Vallender opening the scoring with a neat break that let him cruise in under the posts.
Nick Tagg quickly added another try converting them both to leave Cross 14 - 10 up.
Good work by the youthful Ian Dolphin saw him cross for five points finishing off with an outrageous dummy, again the extras were added.
A flowing move along the back line saw Haydan Fry make a superb break before being stopped five-yards out, but Rich Stonebridge was there in support to score and leave the visitors 26 - 10 up at half- time.
The game became a very scrappy affair in the second half but Cainscross kept the scoreboard ticking over regularly with first James Harris surging his way over from a scrum, Tagg adding the extras and then Rob Clothier who had been on the pitch 60 seconds finished off well in the corner.
Smiths did not give up and kept the game alive but Cainscross had the speed advantage with Vallender directing events well from fly half using his experience to set James Harris free who then romped over the line to collect his second try of the afternoon.
Tagg added the two points to give Cainscross the spoils 45 - 10
Star player: Colin Vallender.
CAINSCROSS entertain old rivals Painswick at Victory Park, 2.30pm kick off.
