Barbara's mission is to raise more cash

DETERMINED Barbara Kiddle has raised the stakes in her ambitious crusade to collect £1-million for Alzheimer's sufferers.

Barbara, 60, has her eyes firmly set on creating a drop-in and educational centre in Quedgeley for sufferers and their families.

She is currently working on an application to People's Millions on Central News, where viewers decide on the most worthy recipients for grants of £50,000.

"We are looking for a large piece of wasteland or a field to transform into a place of beauty," said Barbara, a grandmother of 11.

"We want to put in a log cabin and make it a nice homely place where people can go for home-made cakes or to help with growing our own produce or just sit in a tranquil garden.

"We could run a restaurant and have a separate room or hall as a drop-in and education centre that could be used for generations."

The SNJ revealed in January how Barbara had embarked on an amazing quest to raise £1-million for the Alzheimer's Society after finding out her mother had been diagnosed with the condition last summer.

Since then, offers of support have flooded in.

"Lots of people have called me," she said.

"One young girl is doing the Great North Run and wants to donate the money she raises to the appeal."

Barbara has already raised more than £1,500 through a psychic fair and clairvoyance evening.

And many more events are on the horizon including a fashion show and a walkathon in the summer.

"I know once the ball is rolling more families who are touched by Alzheimer's will come forward," she said.

"The goal is attainable as there is so much professionalism and so many resources among families and those affected by the disease."
