Pupils get taste for healthy food

A DIET of healthy eating and fitness was served up to pupils at Christchurch Primary School.

The enthusiastic youngsters enjoyed different activities every day last week including healthy cookery lessons, sessions with both Cheltenham Town FC and Stroud Athletics Club coaches, decorating water bottles and a fancy dress day.

Each child was also challenged to come up with a healthy packed lunch with the four winners being awarded free swims at Cirencester swimming pool.

And the week was capped off with a day-trip to an organic farm at Over.

"We have had an absolutely fantastic time," said headteacher, Sally McMurray.

"There is a huge importance of having these things in school as it gives the pupils chance to think.

"We had parents in with children cooking healthy food and all the pupils are absolutely ecstatic as they have each contributed to a healthy recipe book we have published already.

"The children's outfits were lovely - we had a cauliflower, some green beans, strawberries and a carrot and some came in fitness outfits such as their football kit.

"It has been wonderful and I'm sure it will have an effect beyond this week."
