THE Cinema Club at The Space, Lansdown, Stroud will be screening a double-bill of documentary films looking at the ideal of peace this weekend.
The films showing are The Human Shield by Stroud filmmaker Nathan Hutchings along with News from the Holy Land by Jake Lynch & Annabel McGoldrick.
"At a time when so much conflict grabs the headlines," said Space spokesperson Rick Vick, "these poignant films offer a refreshing insight into how individuals and corporations attempt to change the course of history."
Nathan Hutchings set up SnakeBite Productions in 2003 to make educational and inspiring films about the world.
"He has a significant 'on camera' presence and has an unusual take on world events," added Rick.
"His films are personal and authored as he retraces footsteps, puts himself in the frame and is not afraid of being in the midst of the action."
The Human Shield looks at the 60 volunteers, from all walks of life, who embarked on an incredible journey from London to Baghdad in February 2003.
Travelling on three-double-decker buses over 3,000 miles, the group struggle to grasp the seriousness of their actions as they battle to overcome obstacles and internal conflicts on their way into Saddam's Iraq.
News from the Holy Land is an illustrated call for a change in the way the Israel-Palestine conflict is presented to television news audiences.
It shows how the coverage of the last three years has built up into a pattern of cumulative omission and distortion, to the point where it escalates the violence.
The double bill takes place on Sunday, April 2 at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 or £4 on the door. Club membership costs £2 per calendar year.
