Scott is star with royal approval

STUDENT Scott Wakefield is close to being crowned Young Gun of the hospitality industry after a remarkable year working at Buckingham Palace.

Scott, 22, who is studying international hospitality management at Bournemouth University, was the first student ever to be offered a year's work placement at the Queen's landmark London residence - where he worked as a footman and butler.

During his year, Scott lived in and was responsible for looking after high profile guests including dignitaries, diplomats and sporting parties.

Scott cannot reveal the identity of guests but says the highest standards were demanded on a daily basis.

"I went there to see what was required of me to make it really big," he said.

And the hard work really paid off for the former Maidenhill School pupil and Archway School sixth former as he was promoted to management level in just six months - an unparalleled achievement which normally requires more than three years training.

"There was so much to learn but I put in a lot of work and managed to get there a lot quicker than the others," said Scott.

"They have offered me a job to go back but I'll just wait and see what happens."

Scott's achievements have earned him a nomination as one of 10 finalists for the Richmond Events Young Guns Competition.

Two winners will be chosen after a series of interviews with a judging panel of industry top brass at a London Hotel tomorrow, Thursday.

The award winners will be whisked off on the Aurora cruise ship, which will tour the Channel Islands for two days.

"It is a chance to network and get your name known by lots of companies," added Scott.

"I'm confident but whatever the outcome it was definitely an honour and a privilege and just working at the palace was really rewarding."
