MP says heavy traffic in Stonehouse must be curbed

THE busy flow of traffic flowing through Stonehouse must be reduced says David Drew.

The Stroud MP believes contrary to promises of planners traffic through the town drastically increased after a motorway exit was added at junction 12 of the M5 in recent years.

"We now have a heavy flow of traffic on two roads and we are looking into ways to make that journey off junction 12 and on through Stonehouse less advantageous," he said.

"The traffic in the High Street is getting busier and busier and it is becoming an unpleasant place to walk. This will continue as an issue."

Stonehouse Town Council is currently working on traffic issues with Gloucestershire County Council and engineering company Halcrow.

"A weight restriction was imposed earlier this year which has eased the flow of heavy goods traffic," said Richard Lacey, clerk to Stonehouse Town Council.

"We have also engaged with an independent consultant, Ben Hamilton- Bailey, to look at alternative ideas for shared spaces in the town. We want to get this right."
