Regatta retention for Reed

WORLD champion rower Peter Reed comfortably retained his number one ranking with Oxford Blue partner Andy Hodge in Belgium to cement their position as the heirs to Olympic legends Steve Redgrave and Matthew Pinsent.

The Nailsworth naval officer went ahead from the first stroke in the six-boat final. Despite a late challenge from Cheltenham world champion crewmates Steve Williams and and Alex Partridge, they were never in any significant bother.

It was Reed's second straight trials regatta title. Last year saw Reed and Hodge remain undefeated in the GB four, winning the World Cup and the World Championships in Japan,
