Family's tribute to tragic Steven

TEENAGER Steven Warner, who died after his car hit a tree, was living out his childhood dream as a mechanic.

This week his devastated mother and father, Liz and Martin, said Steven, 18, was a loving son whose passion was tinkering with engines.

"Even before he could drive he was always in the tool box, taking apart pushbikes and engines," said Mrs Warner.

"When he was three he lost his dad's keys in a toolbox he had been playing with - we didn't find them until three years later."

Steven, from Amberley, known to friends and family as 'Harry Potter', was travelling along the B4058 near Wotton-under-Edge when his car careered into a tree and burst into flames earlier this month.

Despite efforts by passing motorists to save him, Steven, a former pupil of Avening Primary and Sir William Romney School, Tetbury, died at the scene.

After leaving school at 16 with some good GCSE results he worked briefly at a go-kart track at Aston Down, before becoming an apprentice mechanic for Audi.

"He seemed to be doing well at the college he was attending in Bridgewater," added Mrs Warner.

"It was what he wanted to do."

Along with cars, Steven's other main interests were music and spending time with friends.

"He always liked music and music systems," said Mr Warner.

"He only had a small bedroom but at one point he had eight or nine speakers, mainly from cars.

"He was always sorting out his mates' cars and push bikes.

"If it was anything mechanical he would always offer to help."

The family have written a verse to commemorate Steven, who had two sisters, Kerry, 15, and Emily, five.

The Warners would like to thank those members of public and the emergency services who tried to help Steven in his last moments.

His funeral took place yesterday, Tuesday, at Shipton Moyne Parish Church.

The verse written in Steven's memory:

You were tragically taken away, Seems so unfair, Always thoughtful, loving and kind, These are the memories you left behind. They say that life goes on, that's true, But not the same since we lost you. Always in our thoughts.
