Semi-acoustic switch

THE FOURTH heat of the DMS Battle of the Bands competition takes place at the Comrades Club, Nailsworth this weekend. There will be three bands competing, all vying to join previous qualifiers for the final: Superjuice, Alibi Thieves, Suicide Crypt and The Present. The winner of the July 29 final will receive 50 hours recording time in Hollow Altar recording studio in Cheltenham.

Tickets are available on the night for £6 and in advance from The Trading Post in Stroud at £5.

Roger Fauske, the organiser, was pleased with the turnout and standard of all the bands in the previous heats. It shows there is musical talent in this area and all they need is a chance to show what they can do.

Happy Hour formed during the summer of 2005. The band have been busy rehearsing and writing their own songs since then. They have varied influences but their sound cannot be pinned down to a particular genre.

Karma Coma formed in May 2005. They started as a five piece band but they soon stripped down to a three piece.

"They have been writing their own songs and gigging in the last year and the result is an impressive sounding demo," said organiser Roger Fauske.

Xplicit formed in October 2002. The band cites Green Day, the Chilli Peppers and Rage Against the Machine as influences. Over the past few years they have gigged regularly and written their own original material. Recently they have played at the Sub Rooms in Stroud.

The last heat of the Battle of the Bands takes place on Saturday (May 6) at 7.30pm. Tickets are £5 from Trading Post, Nelson Street, Stroud or on the door.
