THERE will be dancing in the street at the farmers' market this week as the Border Morris side visit Stroud and show off their moves.

On the veg front, Hotch Potch Organic has returned with courgettes, aubergines, cucumbers and cherry and normal size tomatoes and pencil and flat green beans, always a firm favourite with food fans.

As usual at this time of the year, Jim will also have vegetable plants for gardeners, all raised to Soil Association standards; cucumber, a range of aubergine and pepper plants – sweet and hot; big hardened off and ready to go outside courgette and purple sprouting plants, various squash plants, asparagus plants, tomato plants of various size, shape and colour for outdoor and greenhouse growing including tumbling varieties for hanging baskets.

“These are slightly smaller plants than normal for this time of year due to the cold spring, but they’re strong healthy plants and gathering speed since it warmed up,” said Jim.

The late spring has created an odd situation with the vegetables and although we have strawberries, rhubarb and asparagus, and a selection of tunnel grown veg the field vegetables are well behind leading to a scarcity of supply over the next two to three weeks.

Paget’s and Coleshill will be away until June but we are working hard to bring in some alternatives.

The market itself is still crammed with stalls though with Mrs Beeby returning with free range eggs, a new country wine stall; VQ Wines, the Lavender Garden and all the regulars.

At the flea market there will be unique hand printed textiles and gifts from My Blue Shed and Girish’s famous samosa stall.
