WELL I suppose I should start by mentioning a simply awesome treat I had last week. At Salt Bakehouse, our new bakery stall down Union Street, they do something called a cruffin, which has won an award.

Anyway, I’d never heard of a cruffin so I thought I’d better try one (or two). So last week I got a mango one and strawberries and cream one.

So, what is a cruffin? The name is derived from croissant and muffin joined up to make cruffin. Now, croissant dough is folded and rolled many times to create the fine layering of flaky pastry.

At Salt they have taken the croissant dough and turned it inside a muffin case so it has a muffin case bottom which creates a central hollow which is filled with really creamy fillings; the two mentioned above are just a part of the range they do.

The croissanty bit then rises out of the muffin shaped bottom like a flame of croissant! Quite incredible!

I spent Saturday early evening coffee time devouring one, it was big and it was delightful and a monster to eat and it led onto a conversation about some of the other hard to eat stuff from the market.

By hard to eat we were referring to eating it without getting it all over yourself and enjoyed some amusing stories about doughnuts, hot dogs with ketchup, Niangs yellow Thai etc.

We have Primal Joy foods returning with their Paleo snack range this week as well as monthly stalls David’s Chilli Oils, Severn Spots Charcuterie, Bath Soft Cheese and Hillside Brewery.

We are also delighted to host a Christmas gift stall from the women’s refuge.
