A TAD over ambitious in the shops on Saturday. Bought a pair of jeans in a size smaller than I am wearing convinced they would fit without trying them on. They don't.

Almost driven to the gin bottle with disappointment but decided to keep them anyway and use them as a barometer of how I am progressing.

Kind daughter said she always buys a bigger size than normal from that shop as clothes are notoriously ungenerous so not to be too despondent.

Discovered later she had lied but went along with deception as intentions were sound.

Good news from Alex at Fifth Dimension who studied my food diary which I had kept for a week and said my habits were "actually quite good."

Have been quite deliberately eating well now since last November so I didn't expect too much criticism in that department.

We both agreed my intake of water could be considerably improved though and I could up my carbohydrates.

Told Alex I had been avoiding carbs deliberately because of need to lose weight but she assures me I need more than I am eating so stopped off on my way back and bought a large granary roll for lunch which resulted in disproportionate level of anticipation almost akin to looking forward to Christmas lunch.

It did taste good though.

Little and often seems to be the key. When I remember to eat several small snacks throughout the day rather than three meals the results are staggeringly better.

Trying to squeeze in the gym this week before I leave for holiday has been really tough.

Managed two visits plus daily swim and did a few floor exercises at home joined by the cat who decided to show off on the fit ball. Pretended I hadn't seen.

Dropped another 2Ib this week and am now moving into another stone zone.

Only just resisted urge to jump on and off scales several times that day as didn't want to compound disappointment of the jeans scenario.

Will be hurtling down the Canadian Rockies on skies for the next two weeks so as long as I don't lose the plot on the apre joviality I am expecting some dramatic results.

Will let you know how I got on when I return.
