WITH a general downturn in results across the country Wycliffe College beat the odds again with 85 per cent of students scoring five or more A* to C grades.

There were many individual success stories with pupils achieving 315 A* to A grades making up 37 per cent of all results.

Among those celebrating was future law student Lara Bathurst who racked up seven As and four A*s securing her place at Wycliffe next month studying Spanish, French, English literature and politics for A Level.

The 16-year-old from Berkeley said: "I worked really hard and I think I got the results I deserved and now I can’t wait for next year."

Saudi Arabian student Anna Fishwick was top of the class after achieving 10 A*s and 2 As.

Toben Ronald, from Rodborough, was thrilled after achieving five A*s, five As and two Bs and he celebrated with friend Robert Allman-Carter, from Berkeley, whose A*s in triple science, two As and two Bs also put him among the top performers.

Robert said: "I am really looking forward to the new school year but I know it will be hard work."

Also happy with their results were Francesca Robinson, from Arlingham, with five A*s, five As and one B, Josephine Randall, from Berkeley, with three A*s, six As and one B and Emma Bastin from, Salisbury, with 7 A*s and 4 As.

Headteacher Margie Burnet Ward said: "We knew that this group of pupils displayed a very wide ability range and with rumours of poor results spreading ahead of today’s official announcement we did feel somewhat nervous.

"I am delighted though that the hard work of our teachers and the pupils has paid off with some truly exceptional achievements right across the spectrum of ability."
