MAIDENHILL Schools GCSE students posted record results, with 80 per cent achieving five or more A* to C grades.

Headteacher Pam Wilson said she was 'absolutely delighted' with everyone's efforts.

"We are just bowled over," she said.

"I have to commend the students for their hard work throughout their time here - not just in these exams.

"The support of the parents and the staff is fantastic. They work so hard all the time to make sure every student gives it their best.

"I am just so happy that these grades will enable them to go on and do what they want to do."

Among those celebrating was 16-year-old Lauren Chandler from Stonehouse, who achieved two A*s, two As, five Bs and a diploma in performing arts worth four A*s.

"The revision was a bit stressful at times but I am so happy it all paid off," said Lauren, who is looking forward to studying A-level psychology, drama, history and English literature at Archway School sixth form from September.

"I was shocked when I opened my results, I did not expect to do as well as I did." Equally as delighted with his efforts was Adam Gloyne, 16, from Westrip, Stroud, who is also off to Archway sixth form to study biology, psychology, chemistry and computing having gained five As, four Bs, a BTEC distinction in IT and a BTEC distinction star in sport.

He said: "I was revising hard for a couple of hours every night, so I knew I had done enough studying. "A few marks were a little lower than I wanted but overall I am really happy."

Hard work and determination also paid off for Laura Wells, from Stonehouse, whose three As, five Bs, two Cs and an E will stand her in good stead when she begins her A-level studies in history, psychology, maths, drama and pre-teaching at Cirencester College from September.

"I cried when I open my results," said Laura, 16, who also achieved BTECs in music and performing arts worth an additional six A*s.

"I did not expect any of this, I am delighted."
