QUANTUM OF SOLACE (12A)-

Quantum of Solace is the first time that the plot of a Bond film follows on directly from a previous film, Casino Royale (2006). There James Bond was betrayed by Vesper, the first woman he ever falls in love with (the second being Tracy, who is murdered on their wedding day at the end of Her Majesty’s Secret Service) who then kills herself, despite her love for him.

Bond (Daniel Craig) is still trying to find out the organisation behind Vesper’s blackmail and struggling to keep his personal desire for revenge in check. Along with M (Judi Dench) he discovers the organisation, Quantum, is far more dangerous and powerful than anyone previously thought.

A case of mistaken identity on the trail of an MI6 traitor leads him to Camille (Olga Kurylenko), on a revenge mission herself, and Dominic Green (Mathieu Amalric), a ruthless businessman within the organisation who is targeting one of the world’s most important natural resources for the usual Machiavellian purposes.

As the ensuing plot unfolds Bond finds himself in a race against time against the bad guys, and even his friends, to discover who was responsible for Vesper’s death and to stop Quantum doing what all Bond villains ultimately want to do: take over the world.
