A new online search tool will make it easier for people to find ways to make or learn music in Gloucestershire.

Using this exciting new tool, people will be able to search for and promote music lessons, workshops, music tutors, masterclasses, places to rehearse and record, and lots of other ways to make music.

It has been developed by Gloucestershire Music as the lead organisation in Make Music Gloucestershire, the county’s music education hub. You can find it at www.gloucestershiremusic.co.uk/searchtool While the new tool is currently called the ‘Make Music Wizard’, the music service is asking the county’s young people to give their ideas for a new name by Friday, August 9th.

The competition is open to anyone aged 18 or under and living in Gloucestershire. The young person who comes up with the best name will win a mini iPad for themselves, and one for their school.

Steve Legge, Assistant Head of Gloucestershire Music, said: “The Wizard is really easy to use and will help anyone wanting to find ways to make or learn music. It is also an easy way for individuals or organisations to promote their music services.

“Signposting young people to what’s on offer across the county.and connecting the local music education community are both really important roles for the music hub.”

Cllr Paul McLain, Cabinet Member for Children and Young People and Commissioning, said: “The new music hub is helping to give all of the county’s young people the chance to play and sing and to access many more styles and genres of music from all over the world. Who knows, we may even uncover the next Adele or Jamie Cullum here in Gloucestershire?

“This new tool will make it easy for young people to discover all of the places they can go to make and learn music in the county. I’m sure they will be surprised by how much is on offer, from beat boxing to the bassoon, so why not take a look?”

It is free to search for or add music making and learning services using the tool, and there is also an option to share on Facebook and twitter. Visitors to the ‘Wizard’ can search for different types of services and providers, by location, type of instrument/music, type of activity, specialism, age range and more.
