PAINSWICK Music Society continues celebrating its 70th birthday season on Saturday, April 25 with a concert by the Antara flute and harp duo.

Flautist Thomas Hancox and harpist Rachel Wick have been performing together as Antara since 2007 and are now much in demand throughout the country.

Their Painswick concert includes the first performance of a new work written especially for them by the distinguished British composer Robert Saxton, professor of composition at Oxford University.

Professor Saxton has called his new piece King Herla and it promises to be as exciting as the intriguing medieval legend on which it is based. The programme also includes Bizet’s Carmen, works by Debussy, Fauré and Bax, plus pieces based on the folk song Early One Morning.

The concert takes place in St Mary’s Church, Painswick on Saturday, April 25 at 3pm. Tickets priced £15 (£3 for children and students) can be purchased in advance from Dennis Morgan on 01285 821854 or pmsglen@btinternet.com or on the door.
