AS CO-FOUNDER of Fairport Convention, Steeleye Span and the Albion Band, Ashley Hutchings has long been called “the Guv’nor” of British folk-rock.

And this weekend, the Guv’nor pays a visit to Woodchester, where he will perform words and music show, From Psychedelia to Sonnets.

In a career spanning nearly 50 years Hutchings has worked with a host of folk and folk-rock luminaries including Richard Thompson, Martin Carthy, Maddy Prior, Shirley Collins, John Tams and the late Sandy Denny.

He has won numerous awards, including the Good Tradition Award at the BBC Radio 2 Folk Awards. He was also the driving force behind Fairport Convention’s seminal album Liege & Lief, which was voted ‘The Most Influential Folk Album of All Time’ by BBC Radio 2 listeners.

From Psychedelia to Sonnets is at the Convent on Saturday at 8pm.
