Family life "possibly will not flourish" if people focus all their attention on their career, according to actress Liv Tyler.

The Empire Records star said ever since her nine-year-old son Milo was born she "can't imagine" being away from home for long.

Tyler, 37, daughter of Aerosmith's Steven Tyler, is best known for her film roles but this year she is starring in TV series The Leftovers.

She told the Sunday Telegraph's Seven magazine: "Ever since Milo was born, I haven't really been making many movies because I just can't imagine being away from home for long periods of time."

Adding: "From a very young age I had this idea that if you are very successful in your career and you're giving all of your attention to that, then your family life ... possibly will not flourish as it might."

The star described her TV role as "a steady job" which "feels like a luxury".

Despite admitting there is "something incredibly freeing" about being 25 and flying to New Zealand, she now has a "different kind of balance".

"It's the more grown-up version of being an actress," she said.
