GLOUCESTERSHIRE Local History Association’s first Local History Day will be held at Pate’s Grammar School, Princess Elizabeth Way, Cheltenham, on Saturday 12 October. The event is open to all and runs between 10.30am and 4.30pm.
The theme of the day is ‘Gloucestershire’s Special Houses’.
Four speakers will talk about the history of several of the County’s 17th- and 18th-century houses, including Fairford Park, Frampton Court, Stratford Park House at Stroud and Highmeadow in the Forest of Dean. Displays by a number of the County’s local history societies will focus on ‘special houses’ in towns and villages across Gloucestershire, covering the Cotswolds, the Severn Vale and the Forest of Dean. Gloucestershire Archives will also have a stand at the meeting, and there will be a bookstall with a range of second-hand history books.
Admission to the event is £5, to include coffee, tea and biscuits. Sandwiches can be purchased from nearby Coronation Square or visitors can bring their own lunch.
