A ONE-WAY ticket to Bangkok, bought with a leap of faith in the 1980s, was psychedelic artist Robbie’s gateway to globe trotting.

From Thailand, he went on to explore Asia and South and North America, where, in San Francisco, he discovered the wonderful world of psychedelic art.

But it wasn’t until he began to decorate the cafe he and his wife Monika took around the music festival circuit that he discovered his love of painting.

With no formal education in the arts, he drew on all the design and decoration he had taken in on his travels, and combined that with the psychedelic art he had seen in San Francisco.

Robbie has been painting large UV canvasses in his own original style ever since, and continues to run a festival cafe, bedecked with his creations.

This weekend, Stroud can enjoy Robbie’s artwork and festival cafe vibe, when he takes over Twisted Fix on Nelson Street.

A selection of Robbie’s images, in which he explores a wide range of subject matter, from sexuality, spirituality, philosophy, space, social inequalities and other aspects of the human condition, while still retaining an element of humour, will be on display from 11am.

A Tibetan style cafe will welcome visitors all day, and then from 8pm till 4am there will be a mellow Downtempo Psy Party, with lounge DJ mixes, combing ska, dub and global sounds, and a live set from singer Nathassia Devine.
