A STROUD theatre company’s hit show is to get a big break in the heart of London’s West End.
Almost Legal Productions have just confirmed that they will perform their stage adaptation of the movie Shaun of the Dead in the capital’s theatreland this autumn.
The Five Valleys’ troupe was afforded unique rights to bring the cult comedy to the stage a year ago, and began touring the show last October, with the world premiere taking place at Stroud’s Lansdown Hall.
Now, the company have been invited to perform their version of Simon Pegg’s ‘zom com’ (zombie comedy) at the Arts Theatre in Great Newport Street, on October 1. A follow-up performance in the capital has also been announced, at the Hackney Empire on October 2.
Chas Burns, director of Almost Legal, says everyone involved with the group is ‘ecstatic’ at the news of the London dates.
“The West End performance won’t be open to the public, as it’s an industry showcase,” said Mr Burns.
“That means our production will be played in front of around 100 potential investors, who will be scrutinising every detail.
“Hopefully from that we will get the financial backing to then go on to a possible long run, of six to eight weeks, plus hopefully another tour, with the possibility of dates overseas,” he said.
“Of course this is all very exciting, but we must keep our feet on the ground and concentrate on our task.”
In September, the Stroud News and Journal will be giving away two special tickets to the private West End show, plus transportation to London and back on the cast and crew coach. Keep an eye out for more infromation.
