THE award-winning dramatisation of a passionate Oscar Wilde love letter comes to Swindon tomorrow night after an Edinburgh festival triumph.

Wilde Without the Boy is Gareth Armstrong’s dramatisation of “De Profundis”, the passionate love letter Oscar Wilde wrote to his lover, Lord Alfred Douglas, from his cell in Reading jail.

Two years previously Wilde had been sentenced to two years hard labour for ‘acts of gross indecency with other males.’ The piece is performed by Gerard Logan (Olivier Nominee – RSC), who won The Stage “Best Solo Performer of the 2011 Edinburgh Festival Award” for his acclaimed performance in Gareth Armstrong’s production of Shakespeare’s ‘The Rape of Lucrece’.

Gerard went on to win the "Best Actor" award at the 2014 Buxton Fringe Festival for his performance in ‘Wilde Without the Boy’ and the show completely sold-out during this year’s Edinburgh Festival.

  • Wilde Without The Boy will be at Swindon Arts Centre on Friday, October 2 at 7.30pm. Go to swindontheatres.co.uk or by call 01793 524 481 to book tickets.
