TAKING a break from an arduous motorway drive has just become a great deal more enriching thanks to Gloucester Services.

Following a successful series of trial events, the award-winning services is offering a series of pop-up musical events, beginning with the world famous Gloucester Cathedral Choir.

Nine centuries ago the boys and monks of the Benedictine Abbey of St Peter, Gloucester sang for daily worship in their Cathedral.

From Friday, October 2 their new (temporary) home will be Gloucester Services Southbound. Road-trippers, lorry drivers and locals will be treated to the soothing sounds of ‘Compline’ end-of-day service from 6.45pm for the next three weeks.

Organised in collaboration with the celebrated Longborough Festival Opera, the musical events will be free to attend and open to all.

Sarah Dunning, Chairman of the Westmorland Family said: “Gloucester Services is all about offering visitors the best of our community, be it delicious local food and drink, or fantastic customer service.

“There is so much local musical talent in Gloucester which we want to showcase, as well as offering something really special to our visitors.”

An eclectic programme of handpicked local jazz, soul, folk and more will follow the choir’s residency this Autumn.
