THE University of Gloucestershire are preparing to welcome internationally renowned and award- winning architect, Charlotte Skene Catling to the county.

The visit is part of The Royal Institute of British Architects (RIBA) Gloucestershire and the Sustainable Landscape Lecture Series.

Charlotte is to provide a detailed presentation of her practices ‘2015 RIBA House of the Year’ winning scheme, the Flint House, which featured on a four part TV series for Channel 4 last autumn.

The winning project is located in the flint-layered fields of the Rothschild’s estate at Waddeston Manor in Buckinghamshire.

Described by judges as a marvel of geological evolution and construction, Flint House is a celebration of location, material and architectural design at its best.

Charlotte is also anticipated to demonstrate her practices attitude to core themes that include the Ground, Settlement, Habitat and Substance, and discuss other recently completed projects.

Tom Bell of RIBA Gloucestershire said: "Charlotte was recently shortlisted for the Woman Architect of the Year 2016, being the only British woman on the shortlist, and we are delighted to have her visit Gloucestershire.

"The RIBA House of the Year celebrates the best houses in the country, exemplary projects for architects, clients, developers and students.

"One-off houses are becoming more popular, and with a resurgence in self-building; although Flint House is not that; we hope that Charlotte can inspire anyone planning their own Grand Design”.

The lecture is to be held on the 9th June at 18:00 at the University of Gloucestershire Oxstalls Campus in Gloucester, with tickets available via RIBAHouseoftheYear.eventbrite.com.
