THIS year the World of Children at WOMAD is bringing Brazilian Carnival to the fields of Wiltshire from July 28-31.

Expect bursts of colour, South American sounds and street party vibes.

Children can get stuck into all sorts of fun activities, with everything from learning how to tightrope walk in one of the circus workshops to mastering the samba or capoeira in a dance class, to experimenting with sound in a music session or even curling up in the mystifying story telling tipi to hear a tale or two.

Festival goers will have the opportunity to get arty and to make their own professional carnival costumes and create posters, stickers and decorations, all gearing up to the fantastic Children’s Parade taking place on Sunday afternoon.

Star choreographer and director Matthew Bourne will also be inspiring kids and adults alike to don their dancing shoes and have a boogie as two of his leading choreographers from his company, New Adventures & Re:Bourne will host masterclass lessons for all ages in The Happening Tent.

Children will also have the chance to learn the moves from some of his most celebrated works in the Nutcracker! Workshop, where imaginations can run wild as all are encouraged to give the classic Tchaikovsky a twist of their very own.

For all the budding young actors at WOMAD, kids can step back in time and get a feel for true Hollywood glamour with the BFI Silent Movie Workshop.

With beautiful old style costumes available, children can create and star in their own classic silent movie, learning about cinema history and video editing along the way.

Fun for kids isn’t just limited to the World of Children.

From tree climbing with professional tree climbers to the vintage Carter’s steam fair, there is plenty to do for all ages.

Not content with being the world’s global party celebrating international music and culture, this year WOMAD have introduced a brand new venue celebrating science and discovery.

The Physics Pavilion, in association with CERN and the Institute of Physics, will be a hub of activity, with workshops and talks galore, including a discussion with none other than Steven Moffatt, Dr Who lead writer and executive producer.
