A YOUNG musical theater performer from Stroud has raised a whopping £2,000 for Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice.

Twenty year old Molly-May Kent organised a fundraising event called A Night at the Musicals earlier this year.

The ex-Archway School pupil, who studied at the prestigious London College of Music, co-ordinated the special night of music in memory of Stroud district and Nailsworth town councillor, Paul Carter who died in 2014.

The show saw some of the biggest hits from the world of theatre hit the stage of Stroud Subscription Rooms on July 15.

Molly, an aspiring West End performer, was joined by local musicians, performers and musical theatre students in the tribute evening as they sang to raise money for the hospice in memory of Molly-May’s godfather, Paul.

Featuring hits from Les Miserables, The Phantom of the Opera, Mamma Mia, The Bodyguard and many more the event celebrated Paul’s love of the musicals.

Molly's event raised a whopping £2,000 which she has donated to Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court Hospice, who helped provide care for Mr Carter after he was diagnosed with cancer.

The young performer visited the hospice on Friday, September 23 to present Head of Hospice Fundraising Mike Tague with a cheque for the amount raised.

Molly-May said, “Sue Ryder Leckhampton Court were a great support to Paul, and have continued to be a huge support to his wife Linda since his passing. The hospice helps so many people, in what can be such a dark and difficult time in their lives, by offering light and comfort.”

“Raising funds has been even more essential and important due to a recent flash flood in the day hospice building. I was so lucky to have such a great team of support for this event from the band; from the supporting technical team, to the performers. We all just want to support Sue Ryder and their work, in memory of such a kind and giving man, my godfather, Paul.”
