COOK, restaurateur and new host of The Great British Bake Off, Prue Leith will be at the new urban farm shop, in Chipping Campden’s High Street, on Saturday, May 13 to sign copies of her new book, The Prodigal Daughter.

It’s the second in the Food of Love trilogy and her seventh novel, which follows her acclaimed memoir, Relish, and kitchen bookshelf staples like Leiths Cookery Bible.

Prue, who set up the world-renowned Leiths School of Food and Wine and has been a judge on the Great British Menu, will join Paul Hollywood, Sandi Toskvig and Noel Fielding to host The Great British Bake Off when it returns to TV screens later this year on Channel 4.

She agreed to do the book signing after shopping at Fillet & Bone, which opened in March in the centuries-old L Smith Family Butcher’s shop.

Managing director Chris Gates said: “We’re absolutely thrilled Prue is going to be with us on May 13. She’s been revolutionising Britain’s eating habits since the sixties, and she shares our passion for locally-sourced, responsibly-farmed, sustainable, seasonal food and drink. She’s one of our all-time food heroes, and we can’t wait to welcome her to the shop.”

Prue, who lives in Oxfordshire, will be signing copies of The Prodigal Daughter and other books between noon and 1pm.

The novel, set in 1968 in Paris and Gloucestershire, centres around Angelica Angelotti, a passionate Italian food-lover who moves to the French capital to go to culinary school.

She falls in love with her charismatic cousin, Mario, but flees to the family home in Gloucestershire when his depression takes hold and opens a restaurant in her local pub, the Frampton Arms.

With a backdrop of Britain’s changing food culture, it’s packed with jealous relatives, ambition, desperation and hope and has been optioned for a TV series by Stephen Fry’s production company, Sprout.

Prue, who is involved with several charities and chaired the Children’s Food Trust, lobbying for nutritious school meals, said: “I’m full of admiration for Fillet & Bone. It’s a great little shop, and I’m delighted to do a book signing for them. Good food, good wine and a good read are my idea of heaven.”

  • Prue will be at Fillet & Bone, High Street, Chipping Campden, GL55 6AT on Saturday, May 13 between noon and 1pm. No tickets are required. All profits from the sale of books on the day will go to Cotswolds charities. The Prodigal Daughter, by Prue Leith, is published by Quercus. It is out in paperback on May 18.
